SSA Member Schools and Zones,
School Sport Alberta (SSA) and Volleyball Alberta (VA) would like to communicate our continuing shared goal of supporting student-athletes through a coordinated approach that promotes clarity, choice, and long-term development.
The following specific information complies with the SSA Season of Play and aligns with the Non-school Team Participation Policies:
- Tryouts
Student-athletes may participate in non-school team tryouts on any day in August, and only on the following dates in September:
- Sunday, September 6
- Monday, September 7
- Sunday, September 13
- Non-School Team Participation
Commencing September 1, student-athletes may only participate with non-school teams on statutory holidays and designated school breaks during the SSA volleyball season.
- Eligibility
Student-athletes who participate with non-school teams on any other dates from September 1 - November 28 (inclusive) will be ruled ineligible for SSA volleyball competition.
Important Notes:
- Many athletes will re-sign with their indoor competitive club teams prior to the 2026–27 school year and are not required to attend fall tryouts.
- SSA eligibility policies do not extend to Junior Varsity (JV). However, any JV athlete “pulled up” to the varsity team must be in full compliance of SSA eligibility policies. Zones may have more strict requirements, including regarding JV eligibility.
SSA and VA will continue to work with their respective memberships to review feedback and work collaboratively towards athlete-centered policy and process decisions.
